Sitemap & IndexNow check – a skill for Claude
Validates sitemaps and sitemap indexes, compares them with your built site, and prepares IndexNow submissions.
What it checks and does
- XML, namespace, 50,000-URL and 50 MB limits
- Duplicates, relative URLs, mixed hosts, bad or future lastmod
- Built pages missing from the sitemap, and the reverse
- Optional live check: status codes, redirects, noindex, canonical mismatch
- IndexNow payload (dry run unless you add --submit)
Try asking
“Check my sitemap against ./dist and tell me why Search Console says Couldn't fetch.”
Script
sitemap_check.py, indexnow.py – Python 3.8+, standard library only, covered by the pack's tests. Claude runs it and reads only the output, so long files don't fill your context.
When Claude uses it
The skill's description, which Claude matches against your request:
Validate XML sitemaps and sitemap indexes (format, size limits, lastmod dates, duplicates, URLs outside the site, optional live status/noindex/canonical checks), compare the sitemap with a built site folder, and prepare or send an IndexNow submission for Bing/Yandex/Seznam/Naver. Use when the user mentions sitemap.xml, "Couldn't fetch" or "Discovered - not indexed", IndexNow, getting new pages crawled faster, or submitting URLs to search engines.
